The UK’s largest biochar production facility driving carbon removal at scale

Biochar is one of the most credible carbon removal solutions available today –permanent, measurable and ready to deploy. However, much of the market remains fragmented and small‑scale, creating uncertainty for long‑term buyers and limiting the role biochar can play in meeting net zero targets.

By combining feedstock assurance, industrial‑grade production, strong operational controls and a platform‑led approach to quality and standards, AHE improves access to high‑integrity biochar carbon credits with reduced risk. PureBiochar, our production facility in Royal Wootton Bassett, is central to that mission.

The site operates on a circular model, converting local garden waste from Wiltshire District Council that would otherwise be landfilled or incinerated into biochar for use in agriculture applications. Excess heat from the process is recovered to generate energy, supporting on‑site operations and compliance with European Biochar Certificate (EBC) standards.

Day‑to‑day operations focus on safe, consistent and high‑quality production. Trained site teams manage the full process – from feedstock handling and on-site moisture testing to pyrolysis, cooling, bagging and dispatch – ensuring the system operates within tightly controlled safety and engineering parameters.

Personal and process safety are non‑negotiable, with strict PPE requirements, permits, lock‑out/tag‑out procedures and continuous monitoring to prevent hazards such as excess heat or gas build‑up. Skilled people, clear procedures and strong safety culture are as critical to performance as the technology itself.

PureBiochar’s role in our platform

PureBiochar underpins A Healthier Earth’s wider biochar platform. Operating to consistent, industrial‑grade standards for safety, process control and reliability, the site acts as the operational blueprint for how biochar is produced across the platform.

By setting this benchmark, PureBiochar provides the physical foundation for high‑integrity biochar carbon credits – increasing confidence for long‑term buyers and enabling carbon removal at meaningful scale.

Supporting Pure DC’s decarbonisation strategy

For Pure DC, AHE’s platform plays a key role in how it engages hyperscale customers on platform‑level decarbonisation, translating climate targets into solutions that can be delivered alongside next‑generation digital infrastructure.

Through an independent, high‑integrity carbon removal capability, hyperscale customers can complement broader efficiency and energy strategies, while providing a differentiated approach to tackling residual emissions.

AHE’s carbon removal capabilities supplement Pure DC’s carbon reduction strategy at each of its campuses. Together, they build trust with local authorities – delivering credible and connected plans to support environmental and community priorities.
