The new data centre campus in Kivenneva
Building more than a data centre

We want to grow into being a part of Seinäjoki
We rely on data centres for almost everything we do on our smart devices: keeping in touch, finding information, shopping and enjoying ourselves. The list goes on. At Pure DC, we build and run data centres. We're here for the long term and we want to make a positive difference to Seinäjoki and the people who live here.

How does the data centre benefit locals?
Seinäjoki is home to Pure DC’s largest campus project. Take a look below at the kinds of opportunities we have typically offered in the communities where our data centres operate.
How would you like to work with us in Seinäjoki? Pitch your ideas on our listening tour on 20-22 October, or take part in our job fair in November. We will announce the first collaboration projects in early 2027.
Employment
The data centre creates career opportunities both directly and through partnerships and procurement. We want to partner with local businesses.
Education
We develop education and career pathways together with education providers. We donate equipment and supplies to educational institutions. We provide grants for students, research and innovation.
Community engagement
We provide sponsorship and grants to local associations and organisations. We organise open house days at the data centre.
Environment
We develop ways to make use of waste heat locally. We contribute to urban development, for example through the regeneration of green spaces.

Frequently asked questions
The first phase of construction of the Seinäjoki data centre is already under way. Here you can find answers to the most frequently asked questions about the data centre.
-
Why are you building the data centre in Seinäjoki?
Seinäjoki has the combination of power, infrastructure, skills and local support needed for a data centre of this scale. The site has access to more than 700MVA of renewable power through one of Europe’s most stable electricity grids, making it well suited to the energy requirements of a data centre. The region also has a strong engineering talent base and its climate also benefits natural cooling.
We have received strong support from the City of Seinäjoki as part of the municipality’s broader development strategy, and we’re proud to play our part in the next chapter of Seinäjoki’s growth. The development will help establish Southern Ostrobothnia and Finland as an important location for AI and digital infrastructure in Northern Europe, acting as a catalyst for tech sector jobs and the supply services that support it.
-
What opportunities will the project create for local businesses?
We want local businesses to play a meaningful role in the development of the campus. Working with SDC Ventures, CTS, and their sub-contractors Velox and Mecwide, we plan to work with local companies wherever possible throughout construction and creating opportunities across the supply chain.
A project of this size will require a wide range of services and skills over many years, many of which will change over the lifecycle of the development. With more than 3,000 jobs expected across the decade-long construction programme, the development will drive demand for skilled roles, local suppliers and services, with the potential to support a wider network of businesses and entrepreneurs in the region. As construction progresses, we will provide further information about opportunities for local suppliers and businesses to get involved. Our first jobs fair is being held alongside CTS and Velox on 11 November 2026. We plan on running similar fairs throughout the life of the campus.
-
How can local people and organisations get involved and influence community initiatives and partnerships?
We hope our campus will have a positive, long-term relationship with Seinäjoki and the surrounding communities.
As the project progresses, we will work with the City of Seinäjoki, education providers, local organisations, businesses and residents to identify opportunities for community initiatives and partnerships. We will provide further information on this page about how local people and organisations can share ideas and get involved. The first part of this process is understanding the priorities of residents. Our listening tour in October aims to better understand these priorities.
-
How will the construction site affect local residents?
We recognise that a construction programme of this scale and duration needs to be managed responsibly, particularly when it comes to traffic, noise, dust and other potential disruption. We are working with our construction partners and the relevant local authorities to manage the impact of construction on neighbouring communities. As different phases of work begin, we will communicate information that residents need to know, including significant changes to construction activity or traffic arrangements.
A project employing thousands of people over its construction period will also increase demand for services in the area, including accommodation, everyday services, restaurants, schools etc. We will continue to work with local partners as the development progresses to understand and manage these wider opportunities.
-
How much water will the data centre use?
The data halls are designed around repeatable 40MW modules and offer both air-cooled and Direct Liquid Cooling solutions depending on customer requirements. Both cooling approaches use closed-loop systems, meaning zero water use in operation. The only water used on site will be for staff comfort, such as showers, toilets, kitchen water – not cooling.
-
We’ve seen issues elsewhere in Finland with data centres’ environmental permits. What is the situation in Seinäjoki?
Our data centre received all its necessary environmental permits from the City before development began in January 2026.
More generally, Pure DC is working to decarbonise its digital infrastructure and has set a science-based target to achieve net-zero carbon emissions in operations by 2040.
EcoVadis (a globally recognised environmental assessment framework) puts Pure in the top 2% of global data centre operators for 2025. We are the world’s only data centre developer to have been awarded an innovation grant for agri-tech, and Europe’s only DC developer to have decarbonised 100% of its operations across gas and electric grids through wind, solar and biomethane.
With an arm of our group dedicated to climate technology (A Healthier Earth), we also launched the world’s first integrated carbon removal platform for carbon credits by the data centre sector and have invested £24 million to become the UK’s largest producer of biochar, a recognised carbon removal technology.
